The World Naked Bike Ride is an annual, worldwide bike ride that highlights the vulnerability of cyclists everywhere and decries society's dependence on pollution-based transport. It's also a lot of fun and it's free for all! Portland has the world's largest ride--with around 10,000 people on the road in 2010 and 4-5 thousand folks in 2009 and 2011--and we are looking to break the record for the world's largest naked ride again in 2012!

But we need your help! Shift is a loose volunteer organization of bike funnists who help facilitate events around Portland like moving by bike, inclusive group rides, and a 3+ week long festival of summer bike fun--whose biggest event is the naked ride. (It's also the second largest group ride in Oregon, period!) Organizing the naked ride takes hundreds of volunteer hours and costs a fair amount--there aren't any free, safe locations where 10,000 naked people can gather and come back to after the ride. Even the cheapest rentable locations still require over a thousand dollars worth of permits from various city departments, plus providing security and bathroom facilities, and dealing with 10,000 peoples' worth of trash after the event--which takes a lot of money.

So we turn to you, the riders. Can you help Shift fund the rental of a gathering location, and all the associated costs of the pre-party? Even one dollar helps! All donations to the World Naked Bike Ride kickoff event are processed by our 501(c)3 partner Umbrella and are thus tax deductible.
